365 Days of Columbo: August 26th

August 26th is the birthday of Francine York who Columbo fans will remember best as tall, curvy, Sergeant Leftkowitz, who badgered the good Lieutenant to get down to the pistol range to requalify with his gun in Forgotten Lady. She was born in 1930 in Aurora, Minnesota.

Interesting note about this picture, it reminds us that Peter Falk was only 5'6". Francine York appears taller than her 5'8" standing next to him.

Francine York also got to initiate one of my favorite Columbo one-liners:

"You know Lieutenant, I'm in the homicide office at least once a week. I don't think I've ever seen you there."

"Well, I don't get down there too often. None of the murders take place there, you know."

Ms. York has well over 100 acting credits to her name over a very busy career, including 26 episodes on the long-running soap opera "Days of our Lives". Most recently she appeared in "Ten Violent Women: Part Two" just before her passing in 2017.

She was also a runner-up for Miss Minnesota in the early 1950s.
