September 28th is the birthday of Columbo guest star William Windom. He was born in New York City, in 1923.
Though you might know him best as Everett Logan, the embattled VP of Stanford Chemicals in Short Fuse, that was actually his SECOND Columbo appearance. He was also the DA, Burt Gordon, in Prescription Murder.
Around the same time Short Fuse was being filmed, in 1971, Windom connected with another Short Fuse co-star, Roddy McDowall, on Escape from the Planet of the Apes. Interestingly that film also featured Columbo guest stars Bradford Dillman (Greenhouse Jungle's cuckholded husband Tony), Kim Hunter (the befuddled Aunt Edna in Suitable for Framing), and Sal Mineo (the ill-fated co-conspirator Rachman Habib in A Case of Immunity).
Appropriately enough Windom was also a regular on Columbo cousin "Murder She Wrote", appearing in more than 53 episodes as Dr. Seth Hazlitt.
