365 Days of Columbo: May 27th

Happy birthday Vincent Price

Vincent Leonard Price Jr. was born May 27, 1911 in St. Louis, MO. He was well known for his distinctive voice and performances in horror films.

He was the youngest of the four children of Vincent Leonard Price, president of the National Candy Company. He graduated from Yale University with a B.A. in English and later earned a degree in art history from London's Courtauld Institute.

He established himself in the horror genre with roles in House of Wax (1953), The Fly (1958), House on Haunted Hill (1959), Return of the Fly (1959), The Tingler (1959), The Last Man on Earth (1964), Witchfinder General (1968), The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971), and Theatre of Blood (1973).

In the 1980s he leant his distinctive voice to the legendary Michael Jackson music video "Thriller".

Columbo fans will known him as Viveca Scott's "frenemy" David Lang in the season 3's Lovely but Lethal.

Price passed away on October 25, 1993, in Los Angeles, California.

Happy <yawn> birthday Susan Foster

Born on May 27, 1948, in Torrance, California and raised in East Hampton, Long Island she graduated from East Hampton High School.

After college, Foster moved to Los Angeles, where she worked part-time in the perfume industry while pursuing her acting career. She studied acting with Ivanna Chubbuck, Harry Mastergeorge, and attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in NYC.

Foster is known for her roles in Sierra (1974), Billy Jack (1971), and The Born Losers (1967).

She got what seemed like a big break when she was cast as Lisa King, the commodore's young love interest, in Last Salute to the Commodore but this was actually her next to last acting credit.

To be fair she seemed to be sleepwalking through the episode for which director Patrick McGoohan must share the blame.

All he wants for his birthday is a date with Dr. Allenby

Also born on May 27, 1948 (in Brooklyn, New York), Ken Lerner has managed a somewhat longer career. He is known for his roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Happy Days, and numerous film and television guest-starring roles.

Lerner graduated from Brooklyn College and began his acting career in the mid-1970s. He is typically typecast as whiny or unlucky characters, including an agent who is stabbed in the back with a pen by Arnold Schwarzenegger's character Ben Richards in The Running Man.

For Columbo fans Lerner was Dr. Neff in Sex and the Married Detective which aired in 1989. Sadly Dr. Allenby went to prison before he could confess his love for her.

Happy birthday Raye Birk

Born on May 27, 1943, in Flint, Michigan, Raye Birk is one of those actors who have Columbo fans asking "Who?" But he actually had a fairly significant role as the victim, Howard Seltzer, in A Trace of Murder.

Aside from Columbo he is known for his roles in various television series and films, including The Naked Gun film series, The Wonder Years, The Golden Girls, Wings, and Cheers, where he portrayed the mailman Walt Twitchell.

Birk graduated from Southwestern High school in 1961 and attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where he graduated with a degree in theater in 1965. He received an MFA in theater from the University of Minnesota in 1967. He then taught acting and performed at Southern Methodist University in Dallas from 1967 to 1970.

Happy birthday to Bruce Weitz

Bruce Peter Weitz, born on May 27, 1943, in Norwalk, Connecticut, is best known for his role as Sgt. Michael "Mick" Belker in the TV series Hill Street Blues. He received six nominations for Emmy Awards and two for Golden Globe Awards, winning the 1984 Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

Columbo fans might recognize him as the King's chef in A Case of Immunity.

In 2001, Weitz was named honorary mayor of Reseda, California.
