Happy birthday to Don Ameche!

Born Dominic Felix Amici in Kenosha, WI on May 31, 1908, he was a versatile and popular American actor, comedian, and vaudevillian. He became a major radio star in the early 1930s which led to a movie contract offer from 20th Century Fox in 1935.

Ameche was known for his roles as the dapper, mustached leading man in films during the 1930s and '40s. His film career experienced a resurgence in the 1980s, with notable roles in "Trading Places" (1983) and "Cocoon" (1985), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Columbo fans know him best as Frank Simpson, the Matthews family lawyer in season 1's Suitable for Framing.




Ameche passed away on December 6, 1993. 

Happy birthday Catherine McGoohan

Born on May 31, 1952, in Westminster, London, England she is the eldest daughter of Irish-American actor Patrick McGoohan and actress Joan Drummond.

McGoohan has appeared in a variety of films and television series. Her film credits include "Elizabethtown" (2005), "Beginners" (2010), and "The Girl Next Door" (2004). On television, she has had roles in shows such as "General Hospital" and "Gilmore Girls".

Columbo fans will remember her alongside her father in as his assistant Rita in Ashes to Ashes.




In her personal life, McGoohan moved to the United States with her parents and sisters, having previously lived in both Britain and Switzerland, in the late 1960s. She is married to film producer Cleve Landsberg, and they have two daughters.
