365 Days of Columbo: June 21st

Happy birthday to Mariette Hartley!

Mariette Hartley, born Mary Loretta Hartley in Weston, CT on June 21, 1940 is widely recognized for her versatile roles in both film and television. Hartley's notable film appearances include Elsa Knudsen in Sam Peckinpah's "Ride the High Country" (1962), Susan Clabon in Alfred Hitchcock's "Marnie" (1964), and Betty Lloyd in John Sturges' "Marooned" (1969).

Columbo fans, of course, recognize her from her two appearances on the show. In season 3 she debuted as doomed author Alan Mallory's agent Eileen McRae in Publish or Perish.

She was back in season 7, as the dutiful assistant (and bellydancing blackmailer) to Ruth Gordon's Abigail Mitchell in Try and Catch Me.

On television, she has made significant contributions with roles such as Claire Morton in the ABC soap opera "Peyton Place" (1965), and her memorable portrayal of various characters in the CBS western drama series "Gunsmoke". Hartley also gained fame for her series of Polaroid commercials with James Garner in the 1970s and 1980s.

Throughout her career, Hartley has been recognized for her contributions to the entertainment industry, including a BAFTA award nomination for her role in "Ride the High Country".

Happy birthday to Karen Lamm!

Karen Lamm was born as Barbara Karen Perk on June 21, 1952, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Lamm's acting career included notable appearances in films such as "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot" (1974) and "The Unseen" (1980), as well as in television series like "Police Woman" (1974–1977) and "Starsky and Hutch" (1975). Her talent extended beyond acting, as she co-wrote the Beach Boys’ song "Baby Blue" and contributed as a backup vocalist and songwriter on Dennis Wilson's solo album "Pacific Ocean Blue".

Columbo fans may remember her for her very brief part as Cadet Springer's girlfriend, Susan Gerard, in By Dawn's Early Light.

Her personal life was intertwined with the music industry through her marriages to musicians Dennis Wilson of The Beach Boys and Robert Lamm of the rock band Chicago. Karen Lamm's life story is also marked by her contributions to the biographies of Dennis Wilson, including the ABC miniseries "The Beach Boys Story."

Sadly, Karen Lamm passed away on June 29, 2001, at the age of 49, in Playa del Rey, California, due to heart failure.

Happy birthday Doug Savant!

Born on June 21, 1964, in Burbank, California, he began his acting career in the mid-1980s, gaining international recognition for his portrayal of Matt Fielding in the hit television series "Melrose Place" from 1992 to 1997. This role was notable for being one of the first mainstream openly gay characters on television.

Savant's career includes a variety of roles in both film and television. He starred in teen comedy films "Secret Admirer" and "Teen Wolf" in 1985, and the following year appeared in the horror film "Trick or Treat". In 1998, he appeared in the monster film "Godzilla" playing Sgt. O'Neal.

Perhaps his most well-known role is that of Tom Scavo in the ABC comedy-drama series, "Desperate Housewives" from 2004 to 2012.

Columbo fans may remember him as Detective Dennis Mulrooney, one of Andy's friends, in the ill-fated No Time to Die.

Off-screen, Savant married his "Melrose Place" co-star Laura Leighton in May 1998. They have two children together, Jack (born October 10, 2000) and Lucy (born June 9, 2005). Savant also has two children from a previous marriage.
