365 Days of Columbo: July 3rd

Happy birthday Tim O'Connor!

Timothy Joseph O'Connor was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 3, 1927.  Before moving to California, he lived on an island in the middle of Glen Wild Lake, located in Bloomingdale, New Jersey, just 30 miles from Manhattan.

Columbo fans might recognize him from either of two appearances. First he played Michael Hatheway, the victim's conniving lawyer and friend who ends up going in with the murderous twins in Double Shock. They double-cross him in the end.

O'Connor's second appearance was shorter but maybe more significant to the story - he played the spendthrift brother Edward Lytton in season 6's Old Fashioned Murder. His sister, played by Joyce Van Patten, murders him to take control of their museum.

Beyond Columbo

O'Connor specialized in playing officials, military men, and police officers. Some of his best-known roles include:

1. Dr. Elias Huer in Buck Rogers in the 25th Century
2. Jack Boland in General Hospital
3. Elliot Carson in Peyton Place

He also had recurring roles on Barnaby Jones and Dynasty, and made several appearances on Cannon. O'Connor's film credits include roles in The Groundstar Conspiracy (1972), Across 110th Street (1972), and Sssssss (1973). Additionally, he directed for The Foothill Theater Company in Nevada City, California, before it closed. In 2011, he starred in the film Dreams Awake alongside his Buck Rogers in the 25th Century co-star, Erin Gray.

O'Connor passed away from colon cancer at his home in Nevada City, California, at the age of 90.
