365 Days of Columbo: September 9th

Happy birthday to Edward Hibbert

Edward Hibbert was born September 9, 1955 in Long Island, New York, but was raised in England and trained at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

Columbo fans will recognize him as the only man in Columbo to seriously assault our good Lieutenant - Bramley Kahn, from Undercover.

In pursuit of the mysterious puzzle pieces, Kahn dressed up in black and went to Columbo's hotel room, smashing him in the head with a pistol when Columbo opened the door.

Beyond Columbo

Hibbert is best known for his role as Gil Chesterton, the snobbish restaurant critic on the TV series Frasier.

Hibbert's versatile career spans stage, screen, and voice acting. He has appeared in Broadway productions such as The Drowsy Chaperone and Mrs. Warren's Profession, and in films like The Prestige and The First Wives Club. As a voice actor, he is known for voicing Zazu in The Lion King sequels and TV series, replacing Rowan Atkinson.

In addition to his acting career, Hibbert is a successful literary agent, representing notable authors like Chuck Palahniuk and Christopher Bram. His dual careers in acting and literary representation showcase his diverse talents and contributions to the arts.

Happy birthday Jane Greer!

Jane Greer was best known for her femme fatale roles in film noir classics of the 1940s and 1950s. Born Bettejane Greer in Washington, D.C. on September 9th, 1924 she began her career as a model before transitioning to acting.

Greer's breakout role came in the 1947 film noir "Out of the Past," where she starred opposite Robert Mitchum. Her portrayal of the manipulative Kathie Moffat is considered one of the quintessential femme fatale performances in cinema history.

Throughout her career, Greer appeared in over 30 films and numerous television shows. Some of her notable works include "They Won't Believe Me" (1947), "The Big Steal" (1949), and "The Prisoner of Zenda" (1952).

Columbo fans will know her as the Sylvia Danziger, the shrewd, wealthy, woman whose adulterous younger husband Hayden so hated Rosanna Welles' rendition of Volare that he killed her for it in Troubled Waters.

Greer's career spanned several decades, and she continued to act occasionally until the 1990s. She passed away August 24th, 2001.

Happy birthday to...you can look that up

Darrell Zwerling was born September 9, 1928 was known for his memorable roles in both film and television. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Zwerling initially pursued a career as an optometrist before transitioning to acting full-time.

His Columbo credits are slightly suspect. There's no doubt he did a nice job as corporate investigator Lewis Lacey (or is it Louis Lacey?) in Exercise in Fatality.

He's also credited as the motel manager in season 3's Mind over Mayhem, though, and as nearly as I can tell that was a different actor. The only motel manger I can find in that episode seems much heavier, and balder.

Beyond Columbo

Zwerling is best remembered for his role as Hollis Mulwray, the ill-fated Water Authority Commissioner in Roman Polanski's classic film Chinatown (1974). His other notable film appearances include Grease (1978), where he played Mr. Lynch, and And Justice for All (1979).

In addition to his film work, Zwerling made numerous television appearances. He guest-starred in popular TV shows such as The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Kojak, and Starsky and Hutch.

Zwerling passed away on April 11, 2014, in Hollywood, California, at the age of 85.
