Happy birthday to Barry Corbin!
Best known to Columbo fans as blustery, arrogant, Clifford Calvert in A Trace of Murder, Corbin was born on October 16, 1940, in Lamesa, Texas. Corbin initially pursued a career in theater, studying at Texas Tech University before serving two years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He eventually transitioned to film and television, building a career that has spanned over five decades.
Corbin's character gets framed for murder by his wife (played by real-life Mrs. Falk, Shera Danese) and her lover, police forensics expert Patrick. Luckily for him, Columbo is on the case and sees through the sham.
Beyond Columbo
Corbin is best remembered for his role as Maurice Minnifield, the eccentric ex-astronaut turned businessman, in the critically acclaimed series Northern Exposure (1990–1995), which earned him multiple award nominations. His other notable TV appearances include roles in Lonesome Dove (1989), The Closer, One Tree Hill, and Yellowstone.
In addition to his extensive TV work, Corbin has appeared in a variety of films, including Urban Cowboy (1980), WarGames (1983), and No Country for Old Men (2007). His talent for playing both comedic and authoritative roles has made him a versatile performer.
Outside of acting Corbin is a horse and rodeo enthusiast. Despite a battle with cancer in 2022, as of this writing Corbin is still alive.
