Happy birthday Robert Douglas!

Robert Douglas was born Robert Douglas Finlayson on November 9, 1909, in Fenny Stratford, Buckinghamshire, England. He studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) and made his stage debut at the Theatre Royal, Bournemouth in 1927.

Douglas quickly rose to prominence with notable roles in productions such as "Many Waters" at the Ambassadors Theatre London and "A Bill of Divorcement" at St. Martin's Theatre London. His career spanned both the stage and screen, with significant roles in films like "The Prisoner of Zenda" (1952) and "Buccaneer's Girl" (1950).

Columbo fans will know him best as ship's doctor Frank Pierce in season 4's Troubled Waters.


In addition to his acting career, Douglas was also involved in directing and producing plays in the West End,.

He was married twice, first to actress Dorothy Hyson and later to actress Suzanne Weldon.

Robert Douglas passed away on January 11, 1999, in Encinitas, California
