365 Days of Columbo: February 24th

 There are some pretty solid Columbo birthdays on February 24th!

Wishing Helen Shaver a happy birthday might not be a good idea

Actress and director Helen Shaver was born February 24, 1951. Columbo fans know her best as the chilling Vivian Dimitri in Rest in Peace, Mrs. Columbo (1990) — the woman who turns grief into a revenge campaign aimed straight at the Lieutenant.

Happy Birthday Steven Hill

Steven Hill was born February 24, 1922. In the 1989 episide Murder, Smoke and Shadows, he appears as Mr. Marosco — a key figure in the story’s money-and-motives tangle, and a great reminder that Columbo loved casting heavyweight character actors even in the later TV-movie years.

Outside of Columbo he spent 10 years as the DA on Law and Order.

In Memoriam: John Randolph 

John Randolph passed away on February 24, 2004. Columbo viewers will remember him from Swan Song (1974), where he plays the brisk, no-nonsense Colonel Mayhoff.

In Memoriam: Sally Kellerman 

Sally Kellerman died on February 24, 2022. For Columbo, she’s forever Liz Houston in Ashes to Ashes (1998) — a deliciously lively presence in an episode already overflowing with gossip, grudges, and Patrick McGoohan’s elegant villainy.
