Happy Birthday Sam Jaffe
Actor Sam Jaffe was born on March 10, 1891. Columbo fans will remember him as Dr. Henry Willis in Forgotten Lady, the husband fading screen legend Grace Wheeler kills.
Outside of Columbo, of course, he
was one of those legendary faces who seemed to belong to cinema itself, with
classics like The Asphalt Jungle, The Day the Earth Stood Still and Ben-Hur on
his résumé.
Remembering Ray Milland
March 10th is also the anniversary of the death of Ray Milland, who died in 1986. Milland played Arthur Kennicutt in Death Lends a Hand, one of the earliest great Columbo episodes and Jarvis Goodland in The Greenhouse Jungle.
Any Columbo episode featuring an
Oscar-winning actor already has something going for it, and Milland was exactly
the sort of polished screen veteran the series used so well.
Remembering Louise Lane
A much smaller footnote, but a real one nonetheless: actress
Louise Lane died on March 10, 1996. She has an uncredited appearance in Murder by the Book as a theatre patron.
