365 Days of Columbo: April 18th

Happy Birthday Clive Revill

Clive Revill was born on April 18, 1930 in Wellington, New Zealand. Columbo fans know him best as Joe Devlin in The Conspirators, the charming, slippery Irish go-between who gives the Lieutenant one of his most personable late-70s adversaries.

Outside of Columbo he was perhaps most widely heard (though not seen and rarely recognized) as the Emperor in Star Wars Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back.

He passed away on March 11th, 2025.

Happy Birthday Frederick King Keller

Frederick King Keller was born on April 18, 1950. While not an on-screen presence, he still has a Columbo connection: Keller received a writing credit on Columbo Goes to College, the 1990 episode that pitted the Lieutenant against two smug, overconfident students played by Justin Rowe and Stephen Caffrey.

Happy Birthday Karen Mayo-Chandler

Karen Mayo-Chandler was born on April 18, 1958 in Sutton, Surrey, England. She appeared in Strange Bedfellows as Tiffany Keene, making her one of the many memorable supporting players from the ABC era.

Outside of Columbo she may be most recognizable for a small part she had as a receptionist in the Eddie Murphy hit movie Beverly Hills Cop.

She passed away at just 48 years old, from breast cancer, on July 11th, 2006.

Remembering Art Kassul

April 18 is also the date of the death of character actor Art Kassul, who died on April 18, 2018. Kassul had a tiny credited role in It’s All in the Game as “First Drunk,” which may not exactly place him in the Columbo hall of fame, but these small appearances are part of the show’s fabric too.
