Happy Birthday Marv Goux
Actor — and much more notably, football coach — Marv Goux was born September 8, 1932, in Santa Barbara, California.
Goux made two appearances in Columbo, and in both cases found himself working for a murderer played by Robert Culp.
In Death Lends a Hand, Goux played Leo Gentry, one of Brimmer’s private investigators. Gentry is the employee Columbo wants to question about the investigation into Lenore Kennicut, only to discover that Brimmer has conveniently sent him out of the country.
Goux returned the following season in The Most Crucial Game, this time as one of Paul Hanlon’s assistant football coaches.
Acting was very much a sideline for Goux. He had been a football star at the University of Southern California and later spent decades coaching at USC, becoming one of the most recognizable figures associated with Trojan football.
Goux died in Los Angeles in 2002 at the age of 69.
Strange Bedfellows Goes to Germany
Another September 8 milestone came 21 years later.
Strange Bedfellows, starring George Wendt as murderous horse breeder Graham McVeigh, received its German premiere on September 8, 1995.
The episode had first aired in the United States four months earlier, on May 8.
