Remembering Roddy McDowall
Roddy McDowall died on October 3, 1998, at age 70. Columbo fans know him as Roger Stanford in Short Fuse, the 1972 episode involving an exploding cigar box. McDowall makes Roger entertainingly restless: a man whose cleverness is impressive right up until Columbo starts examining how he used it.
McDowall’s career stretched from Lassie Come Home to the Planet of the Apes films, but Roger Stanford remains a particularly memorable stop along the way for mystery fans.
Remembering Tad Horino
Actor Tad Horino also died on October 3, in 2002. He played Ando Miaki, the gardener, in Columbo and the Murder of a Rock Star. It’s a supporting role with a purpose: Miaki supplies evidence that helps Columbo investigate the supposedly airtight case against a prominent defense attorney.
