Ed McCready quietly appeared in six episodes of Columbo, even though he's not somebody Columbo fans might readily recognize by name. Born February 17th, 1930 in Philadephia, PA he spent decades playing bit roles in Hollywood, including on Star Trek, Quincy, and Murder She Wrote.
An Exercise in Fatality
Ironically the role Columbo fans might recognize him most readily for is the one he's uncredited for - as the security guard who tells Columbo he can't smoke at Tricon in An Exercise in Fatality.
McCready didn't return to Columbo until Season 9, in 1990, and even then he made you wait until the final 15 minutes of this one before he appears. He plays "Benny" one of the other detectives who breaks the news to Columbo that Mrs. Columbo was poisoned.
McCready is a security guard again in Season 11's Death Hits the Jackpot. This time at Uncle Leon's jewelry store.
He gets a second Season 11 appearance, just two episodes later, here he plays "Ed" the casino worker who sold Harold McCain his ticket for the poker tournament in A Bird in the Hand.
It's all in the Game
Ed has a small part in It's All in the Game as one of the detectives.
Strange Bedfellows
Ed's final appearance was another small one. He plays a guy at the bar in Strange Bedfellows.
