365 Days of Columbo: February 17th

Happy Birthday Milton R. Krasner

Cinematographer Milton R. Krasner, A.S.C. was born February 17, 1904—a behind-the-camera heavyweight who won an Oscar for Three Coins in the Fountain and shot a mountain of classic Hollywood.

For Columbo fans, Krasner’s name is a fun one to spot because he turned up late in the original run doing TV cinematography, including work on Fade in to Murder.

Happy Birthday Ed McCready

Columbo occasional Ed McCready was born February 17, 1930. He appeared in at least 6 Columbo episodes, starting with his amusing turn as the security guard in Exercise in Fatality.

I suspect he also made an appearance in Fade in to Murder, but he wasn't credited for it.

In Memoriam: Paul Stewart

February 17 is also the anniversary of the death of Paul Stewart, who passed away on February 17, 1986.

Columbo fans will remember him most as Clifford Paris in Double Shock—the vigorous old fellow who was about to marry gorgeous young Julie Newmar. At least until his nephews electrocuted him in the bathtub.

Stewart’s career stretches way beyond Columbo (radio, film noir, stage, you name it).

In Memoriam: Paul Carr

Actor Paul Carr died on February 17, 2006. On Columbo, he appears in the pilot Ransom for a Dead Man as Hammond.
