Happy Birthday, Shera Danese
Shera Danese was born on October 9, 1949. Peter Falk’s real-life wife became a familiar face on Columbo, appearing in six episodes spanning both the NBC and ABC years.
Her appearances began with Fade in to Murder, before she was Mrs. Falk. Murder Under Glass was her first as his wife, followed by Murder, a Self Portrait, Columbo and the Murder of a Rock Star, Undercover, and A Trace of Murder. That last appearance gave her a particularly substantial role as Cathleen Calvert, who conspires with her lover to frame her husband for murder.
Happy Birthday, León Singer
October 9 is also the birthday of León Singer, born in Mexico City in 1932. He played Fernando, the doomed gardener, in A Bird in the Hand.
Fernando has the terrible misfortune of starting a car rigged with a bomb intended for his employer, Big Fred McCain. It’s a brief appearance, but an important one in an episode where murder plans keep producing unexpected results.
